Last Call

Last Call

Our driver met us at 5 AM and as we loaded our bags into the Land Cruiser he informed me that there would be no photo session that morning. Or all day for that matter. You see, while we were out of contact in the Altiplano bush for the last couple of days the Coronavirus spread like wildfire. Countries and communities across South America were going on lockdown and we had to reach La Paz before 3 pm, when La Paz city would go on lockdown. Raymondo, our driver, said that after 3 no cars would be able to get in or out. He also showed us a picture on his iPhone of a military road block in Ururo, a medium sized town that we would have to try to make it through. So we headed out early with no hope of getting anything done that morning, other than hightailing it out of the Salar. But Reymondo had a nice surprise for me. As we left Uyuni and came into Colchani, Reymondo looked at his watch and said "20 minutes. You can photograph for 20 minutes and then we absolutely must go." So I grabbed my boots, tripod and cameras and went to work. Sometimes 20 minutes is all you need. This is the Last Call from the Salar. Gracias!
